Land ownership along this section of the Copper River is split between a number of stakeholders including the Ahtna corporation, the Forest Service, and the National Park Service. Recently the Park Service, in collaboration with the Youth Conservation Corps, has been leading educational float trips on the Copper and other nearby rivers. To assist in planning and running such trips, the coordinators wished to create detailed maps showing land ownership, potential camping areas, freshwater streams, mileage, access easements, and other essential information. Several sets of waterproof map at various scales were prepared in advance of the trip. They were then tested and additional information was collected with the assistance of Forest Service personnel.
